Aurora, CO
Plains Conservation Center - Aurora Site Master Plan

CCCD’s Landscape Architecture and Architecture student interns developed a Master Plan for the Aurora Site of the Plains Conservation Center. This site is highly used by school groups to introduce the prairie environment to all levels of school groups, as well as, introduce them to the Plains Indians and early settlers here in Colorado. PCC have several educational sites for a staff lead tour or for a self-guided experiences. The interns created an overall master plan that renovated existing experiences, moved and renovated others, added more self-guided tours and experiences, and provided options for future expansion. The biggest challenge to the site is the lack of space and decent building environments for both the public and staff use. The architecture intern designed a building program, floor plan, and conceptual elevations for a future education and staff office building at the PCC.

The Center staff and student interns created a master document that explains and broadens the information of the Aurora site master plan for the PCC.

Fairplay, CO
Library Master Plan

The Center created architectural designs for a new library for Park County Libraries in Fairplay. The original library is currently in the old Courthouse. The new library will accommodate the expansion of the library and Historic Park County archives, as well as, a variety of Park County Offices on the second floor. The intern prepared multiple options, and through several public meetings, created a final plan that satisfies the needs of all the user groups. The site is located at the edge of what we called the Courthouse Campus. The elevations developed incorporated a campus feel, allowing for a unique and defining element to the library entrance. The history of mining in Fairplay generated several ideas of the elevational design and the materials used throughout the building and on the facades.

Lake George, CO
Library Master Plan

The Center created architectural designs for the renovation of the existing Lake George Library. The expansion includes the stacks and library needs, but also, Friends of the Library and community book club meetings. The expansion is phased to allow an extension out the back of the existing building to provide the library with more square footage. An additional extension at the front would provide better circulation for the library and to accommodate all the user groups.
