The 2009 Beaux Arts Ball: The Faces of Places was held on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Mercury Cafe in Denver. This celebratory costume ball, sponsored by graduate students in planning, landscape architecture, urban design and architecture, reinstated a bygone tradition.
The theme, The Faces of Places, refers to a 1931 Beaux Arts Ball in New York City at which well-known architects dressed up as skyscrapers. Guests were encouraged to come dressed as their favorite place - be it a park, a building, an entire city or an imaginary location! Costumes were judged and prizes awarded.
Music was provided by Denver icon Purnell Steen and Le Jazz Machine.
The 2009 Beaux Arts Ball raised funds for the CU Foundation to support construction of a new building for the College of Architecture and Planning.
