Thanking Our All Too Often Unsung Public Health Heroes

(November 20, 2009) - As Thanksgiving approaches, the Colorado School of Public Health joined Research!America and leading U.S. public health organizations in asking Americans to give special thanks to their federal, state and local "public health heroes" who protect the nation’s health throughout the year. These everyday heroes include our health inspectors, environmental health scientists, public health researchers, sanitation workers and public health nurses. November 23 marks the nation’s fifth annual Public Health Thank You Day. Learn More

 

Study: Lifestyle changes best at lowering type 2 diabetes risk

 

(10/28/2009) -
A new study has found intensive lifestyle changes are your best bet when looking to lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Over a 10-year period, a long-term study found high risk participants who lost a moderate amount of weight reduced their diabetes risk by 34 percent. The Colorado School of Public Health was one of 27 national clinical trial sites. Anschutz Medical Campus expands research in Environmental Health with appointment of new chair

(September 30, 2009) - The Colorado School of Public Health announced its selection for the chairperson of its Department of Environmental & Occupational Health this week at the Uniting Public Health meeting in Copper Mountain, Colo. (June 4, 2009) - As the state’s first and only school of public health nears its one-year anniversary, The Colorado Health Foundation is showing its ongoing support of this emerging regional public health leader. Study: FDA label warnings on antidepressants found to be associated with long-term, unintended changes in diagnosis and treatment

(June 1, 2009) – Government warnings about increased suicide risks among children taking antidepressants appear to be associated with unintended and persistent changes in the diagnosis and treatment of depression in both children and adults. The study, conducted by faculty at the University of Colorado Denver’s Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Colorado School of Public Health, appears in the June issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals. Diversity Awards Recognize Two in CSPH

(April 21, 2009)—The Colorado School of Public Health is pleased to announce Dr. Carolyn DiGuiseppi and MPH student Nicole Tuitt both received the 2009 University of Colorado Denver Chancellor's Diversity awards.  Dr. DiGuiseppi and Nicole were recognized by UC Denver Chancellor M. Roy Wilson during an award luncheon hosted by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.  Congratulations to both and thank you for your commitment to diversity on campus and in the community.

CDC Program Expands to Study Health Needs of Underserved Communities - Colorado School of Public Health Center funded

AURORA, Colo. (March 30, 2009)—The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is awarding more than $25 million to support prevention research through the Prevention Research Centers Program at academic institutions in 25 states, including Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Prevention Research Center begun at the University of Colorado Denver (through the Colorado School of Public Health) as well as in the partner community of the San Luis Valley in south central Colorado.
