Continuing Education

Supporting the region’s public health workforce requires a strong commitment to continuing education.  Education and training programs are designed to advance the knowledge and skill of practitioners in the public health workforce to help them effectively address current and future public health challenges.

Through the new Center for Public Health Practice, learning opportunities will be developed on the basis of periodic assessments of professional needs, and made available in easily accessible places and formats. The Center will provide a range of entry level and continuing educational offerings (short courses, certificate programs, etc.) responsive to workforce needs, including training to meet the core competencies for public health professionals and topical training in disaster management and emergency response, epidemiology, statistics, emerging infectious diseases, among others. The Center will provide the educational and training opportunities needed by state and local health departments as well as community based public health organizations.
