MPH-Environmental & Occupational Health

 

The MPH program in environmental and occupational health integrates training in both environmental and occupational health and prepares graduates for a variety of careers in governmental and non-governmental agencies, health care settings, private industry and consulting, labor, and academia.  Students are trained in the practices, laws, regulations, and policies applicable to the protection of the environment and human health and tools such as risk assessment and geographic information systems to inform prevention and health protection strategies.  Through a global perspective, students will learn about preventive measures to ensure safe workplaces here and abroad, the importance of natural ecosystems and healthy cities, and the promotion of sustainable use of resources with concern for environmental justice. 

 

Concentration coursework includes: environmental & occupational epidemiology; toxicology; environmental health policy; and health effects from exposure.  Elective coursework includes: GIS applications; disaster & emergency preparedness management; risk assessment; urban planning and design; and environmental law. The concentration also provides physician training for the Occupational and Environmental Medicine
Residency Program.
