The Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency/Fellowship is accredited as a two-year residency program which trains physicians in occupational and environmental medicine. We seek applicants with fellow status and prior internal medicine, family practice, or other appropriate clinical training.
Board Certification in occupational/environmental medicine requires three years of training: a clinical year, an academic year and a practicum year. We do not offer the clinical training year. The OEM Residency at the University of Colorado offers both a two year program (academic and practicum years) and a one year program (practicum year only). Physicians who have already completed an MPH degree and have experience in the field are eligible to enter the practicum year only option.
The first (academic) year of our residency focuses primarily on completing requirements for the Masters in Public Health degree (MPH). Residents complete core course requirements and Environmental & Occupational Health (EOH) concentration coursework. The second (practicum) year focuses on clinical and policy practicum rotations and research opportunities.
