Session Detail

eCollege Fundamentals: This hands-on introduction provides an overview of the eCollege platform and gives you the essential information you need to start using the system to teach.

Blackboard Fundamentals:
Whether using Blackboard as a supplement to a traditional classroom or as the platform for an online course, this quick introduction will bring you up to speed to start using the tool today.

Disruption in Higher Ed:
Things seem to be changing these days, fast. New tools, new technologies, new trends and new attitudes in the student body challenge the traditional assumptions of how higher education works. This session will highlight trends and technologies that look to alter the face of the university in the coming decade.

Student-produced media in the (online) classroom:
YouTube launched a revolution in video. That revolution has come to the classroom as students, and their teachers, now have the ability to create images, video and multimedia packages in support of learning. Find out how to assign video projects and integrate media into your course.

Top 10 Tips, Tricks and Best Practices:
Got time for a good idea? Here are CU Online’s top 10 best tips, tricks, hints and best practices to help improve your online classes.

Teaching Large Sections Online:
What is the optimal size for an online classroom? That depends on what you teach and how you teach. When considering teaching online classes of 50, 100 or even more, the correct approach can balance student learning needs with faculty time constrains. Learn how to convert your large section face-to-face class to an online format and make it a better class in the process.

True or False:
Is it time to Rethink Assessment?: Do 100 question, multiple choice exams work? Is there a better way? Online courses challenge instructors to rethink how they assess their students. Focused on techniques and models that can help improve learning and minimize cheating, this session will show you how to create large section courses online that are as good, if not better, than their face-to-face equivalents.

Course-o-matic:
Minimizing Course Creation Workload: Semester almost here and your online course is still not ready? This session will cover the bare bones of setting up a new course in less than 10 hours. By focusing on the teaching and using simple templates to put together your new online course, online instructors can focus their attention on students, rather than content.
