University Scholarship Process

The best way to find and apply for CU-Boulder scholarships is through the online application form. The application deadline for most scholarships is typically March 3, although some may have earlier deadlines. To read more about scholarships, current deadlines and to view and print an application, go to the scholarship services website.

Important to note  - you don't have to be admitted to the College in order to apply for financial aid or scholarships. But you must be admitted at the time scholarship decisions are made to be considered. To read more about scholarships or to view and print an application, go to the Office of Financial Aid website.

Tips on applying for scholarships:

  1. READ THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS of the scholarships you are interested in FIRST. Save yourself time and energy by not applying for scholarships with qualifications you don't match.
    1. If you meet the basic requirements for an award, APPLY!
  2. Always apply for need-based financial aid first.
  3. Set up a scholarship file which has copies of your letters, transcripts, and personal statements to save time.
  4. Get a large calendar and plot the deadlines of applications; look at it every day.
    1. Apply as far in advance as possible.
  5. Avoid spelling and grammatical errors; have someone else read and proofread your application before you send it off.
    1. Be complete and concise, but also creative.
  6. Never talk yourself out of applying. You have as much of a chance to receive an award as any other applicant.
    1. Which means you should apply to as many sources as possible.
  7. Don't take rejection personally. The days of "If you work hard and get good grades you will automatically get scholarships" are gone. Universities would love to award EVERY deserving student, but limited scholarship dollars make this impossible.
    1. NEVER become discouraged!

Office of Financial Aid

Typically November 1st is the first day you can begin to apply for scholarships offered by the Office of Financial Aid. To access the application you must have a CU Boulder PIN, which is a randomly assigned four digit number.

In order to receive your PIN, you must apply for admission to CU Boulder. For more information on PINs, go to the Office of the Registrar page. Recognize that the Office of Financial Aid will not offer scholarships if you are not admitted to the University and, unless otherwise noted, you must enroll full time to receive payment.

If you are applying for scholarships that have a financial need requirement, results of your FAFSA must be on file in the financial aid office no later than March 3.

Note - this is earlier than the financial aid priority deadline of April 1.
