Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in the University of Colorado’s College of Architecture and Planning (CAP). We invite you to explore and learn more about the University’s admission requirements, transfer guidelines and evaluation of previous credit hours.
To make your navigating experience easier, we’ve broken out the specific information that applies strictly to transfer students; so this page is strictly a top line overview of the Undergraduate Transfer section. However, since the Undergraduate Admissions Office is on the Boulder campus, the undergraduate Transfer content is also held and updated on the CU-Boulder site. As a result, all of the links on this page will take you over to the Boulder site where you can read the material in full.
CU-Boulder welcomes transfer students from Colorado, out-of-state, and international institutions. Nearly 70 percent of transfer students to CU-Boulder arrive from Colorado institutions.
If you are transferring from an out-of-state institution, the transfer admission criteria and transfer of credit guidelines apply the same for course work taken at a two-year or four-year institution. However, international transfer guidelines are slightly different.

Admissions representatives visit each of the 15 Colorado community colleges throughout the year and also are available to assist you on the phone (303-492-6301) or by e-mail. Refer to the community college contact page for a schedule and contact information.
- Transfer Admission Criteria
When we evaluate your application, we will look at the types of courses you have taken, your GPA, completion of certain minimum academic preparation standards (MAPS), and SAT or ACT scores (unless you have completed 24 semester hours or more of transferable college level work at the time you apply.)
- Course Equivalency Guides
Around one quarter of the students in the College of Architecture and Planning are admitted as transfer students, however, students are encouraged to transfer with 30 semester hours or less due to the particular sequence of courses required in this program.
If you have an overall GPA from Colorado Community Colleges of 2.75, apply by the specified deadline, and have completed the recommended courses, you will be admitted to the College of Architecture and Planning. However, transfer is NOT guaranteed if you have not completed all deficiencies in the Minimum Academic Preparation Standards (MAPS). If you have attended more than the community/junior college, you will be reviewed using standard admission criteria and cumulative grade point average will be considered.
- Credit Transfer Guidelines
The Office of Admissions does an initial evaluation of your transfer credit once you have been admitted and have confirmed your intent to enroll. The College of Architecture and Planning makes the final determination of how your transfer credits apply.
