Nan Anderson
Architect and principal with Andrews & Anderson Architects, PC, based in Golden. Since the fi rm’s founding in 1990, they have worked with communities all over Colorado—on town and city halls, museums, community centers, courthouses, visitor centers, nature centers, restaurants and hotels for both the public and private sectors. With half of their work involving historic preservation and half new construction, the fi rm is committed to design that creates community, engages the public and provides a sustainable resource.
Pat Duran
Currently, Executive Director of the Denver Enterprise Center, a small-business incubator program, serving Curtis Park for the past 20 years. The one-block DEC campus has three (3) buildings: a 70,000 sq. ft. mixed-use offi ce and light manufacturing facility; an 8,000 sq. ft. commercial kitchen commissary; and a historic 15,000 sq. ft. building in need of restoration. The DEC has assisted over 160 businesses since opening its program. Prior to his work at DEC, Pat worked on urban wildlife community center projects at two base-conversion sites (Stapleton & Lowry). The Respects Wildlife Colorado License Plate (sporting the bald eagle) was created by Pat as a fundraiser for urban wildlife initiatives. He was also a developer and Founding Executive Director of the Butterfl y Pavilion in Northern Metropolitan Denver. Other experience includes directorship of a State-wide gubernatorial economic development program serving Governors Lamm and Romer for over a decade.
Ellen Fisher
Ellen Fisher recently retired as Senior Program Offi cer for The Gates Family Foundation, a private foundation with a $250 million asset base. Her areas of focus are historic preservation, the outdoors, and economic development. Ellen’s various community involvements have included being a Trustee for the Junior League of Denver Foundation, Chair of the board of the Colorado Historical Society, and the Board of Advisors of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Ellen received a Ph.D. in American History, a M.A. in History and a B.A. History from C.U. Boulder.
Mary Jane Loevlie
Vice President and co-owner of Shotcrete Technologies, Inc. an international company doing business in the mining and underground industries. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1975. Following years of living and working abroad for the International non-profi t organization “Up with People” she returned to Colorado in 1980. Involved in real estate and community development and historic renovation since 1985, her offi ce is in the Historic Hanchett Building (1890) in Idaho Springs A board member of the Historic Elitch—Center for the American Theatre, Past President of the Idaho Springs Historical Society, Past Chairman and founder of the Clear Creek County Tourism Bureau, Member of the Governor’s council on Rural Revitalization, Chairman of the Historic Preservation Review Commission, Active on the I-70 task force, Member of the Georgetown Trust Board.
Sam Mamet
As Executive Director of the Colorado Municipal League (CML), Sam is responsible to CML’s 19-member executive board for executing the policies and programs of the League, supervising staff members, managing and coordinating activities and operations, recommending and developing organization policies and programs, and serving as a spokesperson for League policies. He also coordinates the League’s legislative advocacy efforts and general policy development and covers a wide variety of issue areas, including tax policy, labor relations, intergovernmental relations, land use, transportation policy and electric deregulation. Sam has been with CML since 1979.
Vicki Mattox
Ms. Mattox provides a wide range of investment banking services to all types of governmental entities. Her clients include the cities of Denver and Englewood and the towns of Erie, Winter Park, and Frisco. Ms. Mattox’s school district clients include: Denver Public Schools, Delta School District, Jefferson County R-1, Durango School District 9-R, Bayfi eld School District, Platte Canyon School District, and Montrose School District. She served as the assistant director of the Environmental Services Division of the City and County of Denver, and an administrator at Aims Community College. She is currently treasurer of the Colorado Community Revitalization Association. She holds a master’s degree in public administration with an emphasis in fi nance and policy analysis and a bachelor’s degree in economics, both from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Alyson McGee
Ms. McGee earned her Master of Science Degree in construction Management, with an emphasis in historic preservation, from Colorado State university. She has been the Public Outreach Coordinator for the Colorado histoical Society's State Historic Fund since 2002. In this position she oversees the application process for the grant programm, as well as, public relations and community and legislative outreach. Before coming to the SHF she was the Associate Director of the Architectural Preservation Institute at Colorado State university. Alyson serves on the Fort Collins Landmark Preservation Commission.
Lee Merkel
As a member of DoLA’s field staff, Lee works with local governments in southeast Colorado to assist them in finding solutions to their needs and challenges. DoLA offers technical and financial assistance to communities, especially those in the rural areas of Colorado. He has twenty five years of experience with local government project planning, financial and budget administration, public works, water and sewer utility issues, community development, and intergovernmental relations. Lee was born and raised in Northeastern Ohio and moved to Colorado in 1974 after graduating from Wittenberg University with a B.A. in Political Science. Attending the University of Colorado, he earned an MPA with an emphasis in Urban Administration in 1977. He has served as a local government administrator for Rifle, Garfield County, Granby, Englewood, Dillon, and Ouray. He joined the Colorado Department of Local Affairs in 2002, serving the southeast region from the Pueblo field office.
Sally Pearce
Ms.
Pearce is the program coordinator for the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byways Program at the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Born and raised in Massachusetts, Ms. Pearce has lived in Colorado since 1979. She received her M.A. in Historic Preservation from Colorado State University and her B.A. in American Studies from Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
Ms. Pearce served as the Department of Transportation’s staff historian for 13 years and was on the Board of Directors for Colorado Preservation Inc. for seven years, serving as both President and Treasurer.
She is currently a board member of the National Scenic Byways Foundation, a member of the America’s Byways Resource Center Advisory Committee and the Marketing Committee for the National Scenic Byways Program, the Colorado Board of Geographic Names, and is a published author, including a guide to Colorado architecture and several books on historic mining districts.
Mike Tupa
Mr. Tupa is a Landscape Architect and Project Manager with over 32 years of experience in park, roadside, community and site design. This experience includes work in environmental analysis and reclamation planning in the Rocky Mountains. He has considerable experience in every phase of site analysis, design, construction and project team management. Project managerial skills include multi-discipline team supervision, agency coordination, newsletters, and public workshop facilitation. As Community Development Coordinator for Cooperative Extension, Mr. Tupa provides planning and design services to local rural governments within a 16 county region of North Eastern Colorado. The program provides community planning and design services to Colorado communities who do not have staff to do this work. Work often helps the towns establish a vision for projects or programs they are considering. Work is often coordinated and completed with student interns. The Community Technical Assistance Program provides design and planning services through the conceptual-preliminary phases. Work is then assembled and passed on to help the communities with their grant funding efforts. Mikes efforts coordinate with the town managers, hosting public workshops and presentations, and as a CSU program manager. The majority of design work is completed under supervision of student intern work in the areas of Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, and other skills as the projects require.
Charles Unseld
Mr. Unseld has worked at the Colorado Department of Laocal Affairs for 21 years, where he currently serves as Acting Director of hte Division of Local Government. for much of his career, he provided technical assistance in land use planning and growth management to local governments, and worked on related policy and legislative matters. He was Project Director for Gov. Romer's Smart Growth and Development Initiative, and served as the first Director of the Office of Smart Growth under Gov. Owens. He has a BS in Environmental Engineering from Lehigh University, and MA and MPhil degrees in Environmnetal Psychology from the City University of New York. He taught at Brooklyn College, the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Colorado at Denver, and the Masters Program in Environmental Policy and Management at the University of Denver

Illene Roggensack
Ms. Roggensack hais President of Third Sector innovations. Illene has been involved in the nonprofit and public sector as an executive director, board memeber, volunteer and consultant for more than 20 years. This experience is coupled with a B.A. in journalism, Masters of Business Administration and recognition as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CRFE) by the Association of Colorado Nonprofit Association and past president for the Grand Junciton Lions Club, which hosts the lasrgest one-day fund raiser among Lions Clubs internationally.
