Plains Conservation Center - West Bijou Site Master Plan
Two Landscape Architecture student interns developed a Master Plan for the West Bijou Site. This site is currently accessed only by staff and their guests. The master plan created a buffalo touring area, as well as, incorporated an Observatory Tower that could be used for buffalo sightseeing and stargazing. Already in existence on the site is a building that could be used for housing a staff manger and small groups of scientists that come to this site for the K-2 Boundary and several paleontologic sites. Development of the riparian area includes a trail corridor and several camping sites. The long term expansion and experiences of the Bijou site will develop once the PCC staff determines if they want to open this area to the public in greater numbers then they are currently.
The Center staff and student interns created a master document that explains and broadens the information of the Bijou site master plan for the PCC.

Empire, CO
Community Park Master Plan
The Center created a master plan for a 20 acre area formally owned by a mining company, now donated to become a Community Park for the town. The site is adjacent to Empire’s existing ball field and picnic pavilion. Dramatic views and an amazing site enhance this park. Several elements compliment the park including an area for weddings, BMX track, free play area with climbing wall, playground equipment, fields and courts for recreation, roller hockey/ice rink, dog park, and a stage area with seating. The river separates the community park from downtown, so a prefab pedestrian bridge could be included to provide an additional connection to downtown. The master plan developed a revenue generating RV Park that would help pay for the maintenance of the park and provide amenities that will draw new visitors to the area.
