Denver's Child & Youth Friendly City Initiative
People
Coalition
The CYFC Coalition consists of organizations and individuals who have a stake in the health and well-being of young people in Denver - people who are interested in helping to make Denver the number one child- and youth-friendly city in the United States. Coalition meetings take place four times per year during non-school hours. They are open to everyone interested in Denver's CYFC Initiative.
Steering Committee
The adult Steering Committee consists of representatives from the three founding organizations (the Mayor's Office for Education and Children, Assets for Colorado Youth, and the CYE Center), and representatives from key stakeholder organizations within the city of Denver, including youth-serving organizations, members of the Denver business community, the city Planning and Community Development department, and Denver Public Schools. The adult Steering Committee guides and supports the Initiative by linking it to human and financial resources, representing the CYFC subcommittees, and providing new insights and opportunities for the Initiative.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee includes representatives from the three founding organizations: the Mayor's Office for Education and Children, Assets for Colorado Youth, and the Children, Youth and Environments Center at the University of Colorado. Its seven members include public officials, youth development specialists and academics. The Executive Committee started the CYFC Initiative and mobilized key stakeholders early on. It helps to coordinate and conceptualize the overall Initiative, recruits stakeholders, and addresses matters that require a timely response.
Youth Executive Committee
The Youth Executive Committee consists of young people aged 9 to 19, recruited from youth organizations, schools and CYFC stakeholder networks throughout the city of Denver. It meets weekly and is the primary youth decision-making entity, voice and leadership for the Initiative. The YEC provides a vision for the Initiative grounded in the real lives of the city's young people.
