Mr. Bo Youn Hwang is here as a Visiting Scholar in the College until July 31, 2010, as recipient of a Seoul Metropolitan Government Long-Term Fellowship for Overseas Studies. Mr. Hwang is Director of the Public Relations Planning Division for the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Previously he held positions in the traffic policy division, transportation planning division and policy evaluations division. He holds a Master's degree in Economic Development Policy Analysis from University of Nottingham, UK, and Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Korea University, Seoul. Currently Mr. Hwang is working on a PhD in Transportation Engineering at the University of Seoul. He played a key role in reforming the bus system in Seoul, which has had positive results in passenger numbers, safety, punctuality, reliability and customer satisfaction. His success led to involvement in implementing a no-driving-day campaign, setting a no-emission zone and strangthening transportation demand management policies. Mr. Hwang is interested in using environment-friendly traffic policies and techniques to solve both urban transportation problems and environmental problems.
