Master of Urban and Regional Planning Admissions

Here are the general Urban and Regional Planning requirements the Admissions Committee considers:

  • At least a 3.0 undergraduate grade point average--although you may be admitted on probation in special instances with a grade point average below 3.0 but above 2.5 
  • A sample of writing or a work project.
    • An 8.5 × 11-inch bound document that includes:
      • Your statement of purpose (which should include your educational and professional goals and objectives)
      • Resume (which describes your educational and professional background)
      • Copy of a student or professional paper or project (with a note explaining why the particular item was selected)
      • A list of courses that you have taken that relate to planning
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores are encouraged for the Urban and Regional Planning program
    • However, if your GPA is below 3.0, you must submit GRE scores.
  • You must hold at least a bachelor's degree.

Your field of prior study is open. Recently admitted students have held degrees in many different fields including:

  • Design/Planning
  • Social Science
  • Natural Sciences
  • Engineering and the physical sciences
  • Management and Public Administration
