Woodshop
As a graduate student at the College of Architecture & Planning, you'll have access to a well-equipped and well-maintained Design Fabrication Laboratory. The 1500-square-foot Denver facility includes: a wood storage/assembly area, an explosion-proof spray booth, a model shop with several workbenches and a variety of bench-mounted power tools, and a machine shop with large floor-mounted tools. We also have a laser cutter laboratory that houses two cutters.
A mandatory “Basic Safety Orientation” is required for all students. Once you've attended, you will have access to the facilities. This course is an introduction to college and building safety polices as well as the proper use of safety equipment and safe practices on the model shop machines. You may then attend “Tool Seminars,” conducted at the beginning of each semester, to instruct you in the proper use of the floor mounted machinery as well as handheld power tools. The intention of these seminars is to familiarize you with each machine available in the shop's inventory and its basic use. View the list of approved and non-approved model making materials and techniques.
Hours
Currently, the Model Shop is open seven days a week, Monday-Sunday, 8:00am to 10:00pm. It is managed by a full-time staff member on weekdays and student monitors in the evenings and weekends. The expertise of the shop manager and monitors is there to help you in creating the designs you envision.
