Management of Power (MOP) energy transfer system

Team Members: Rajesh Khwakhali, Shailja Kalla
Advisor: Brian Atkinson
Disciplines Involved: Electrical Engineering

Description:

A huge amount of energy is wasted during the process of energy transfer from the source to storage or grid transfer. Such loss can be minimized in the system by an application of Energy MOP system. Energy MOP will apply a power point tracking through current sensing and adjust the switching device for optimal power transfer to the storage.

Objective:

Examine a method to develop an efficient power transfer system, that is capable of using MPPT principle and minimize power loss during the transfer process.  This will enable the industry to deploy an easier, efficient, and cheaper consumer friendly and easily implementable system. The project is based on achieving several key goals mentioned below:

  1. System designed should be portable, understandable, and easily accessible to the consumer.
  2. Capable of integrating between PV panels and wind turbines;
  3. Facilitating the development of remote (“off-grid”) renewable power systems.

End Users:

General consumer located far away from the power grid.

Power industries developing portable power management devices.
