Graduate education is a particular strength at the University of Colorado Denver. With almost half of its students enrolled in graduate programs, it has a higher percentage of graduate students compared to undergraduates than most other universities in the country.
This special emphasis on graduate education provides a strong culture of graduate studies on the campus, and has engendered a number of innovative programs and teaching methods. These graduate programs also benefit from UCD's immediate proximity to downtown Denver, which provides rich opportunities for internships and employment, for collaborations between the university and the city, and for a wealth of real world problems that can test and elaborate the ideas gained in the classroom.
UCD offers extensive graduate programs in a wide array of disciplines. (click on Graduate Programs to see a list)
All of the graduate programs at UCD are managed by the individual Schools and Colleges, which means that most of your needs will be met by the department in which your program resides. Please contact the appropriate person for more information:

The Graduate Faculty The graduate programs at UCD are delivered by faculty who are especially qualified by education and experience for graduate teaching. Everyone who teaches a graduate class at UCD must be able to demonstrate significant achievements in one or more of the following:
-
The scholarship of discovery, including both investigative search for knowledge and creative work in the arts;
-
The scholarship of integration, including synthesis of knowledge within and across disciplines;
-
The scholarship of application, including achievements in using knowledge and theory in professional, business, schools, and governmental contexts; and
-
The scholarship of teaching, including successful instruction in school, university, and other settings.
Individual Schools and Colleges also require their graduate faculty to possess additional qualifications that are consistent with the national standards of their own academic disciplines. The University and School/College qualifications can be seen in the section on Graduate Faculty in the Graduate School Rules. These rules make a distinction between regular faculty, who are typically full-time members of the UCD faculty, and special faculty who may not be full-time members of the faculty, but who may have special skills that will enhance a College/School's graduate course offerings. Faculty who meet these qualifications for regular or special faculty are admitted to membership in the Graduate Faculty of the University of Colorado Denver. Only members of the Graduate Faculty are permitted to teach graduate courses at UCD.
The Graduate School Although graduate programs are delivered within UCD's individual Schools and Colleges, there is also a University-wide organization called the Graduate School that looks after the interests of graduate education across the campus. All Schools and Colleges belong to the Graduate School, and jointly develop University policies related to common graduate education issues. One of the most important functions of the Graduate School is to establish and maintain certain minimum standards for graduate education that the individual Schools and Colleges are then free to elaborate or to make more stringent according to their specific disciplinary expertise. School and College regulations, if more stringent, always take precedence over the minimum guidelines of the Graduate School. See Graduate School Rules for details of these University and School/College specific standards.
