CERTIFICATE - PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCES

 

 

The Certificate in Public Health Sciences offers students the opportunity to enroll in graduate public health courses as a standalone program or as an entry point for the Master of Public Health.

 

Certificate students may enroll in the program at the University of Colorado Denver or University of Northern Colorado campuses.  Once enrolled students must complete all 15 credit hours at their respective campus within 5 years. 

 

After completing the program, students with an average program GPA of 3.0 or higher, may qualify for admission into the MPH Program.  Students must formally apply for the MPH program, see MPH Program Admission for more details.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Define, assess and report on the health status of populations, determinants of health and illness and factors contributing to health promotion and disease prevention;
  • Identify and interpret appropriate data sources for investigating a health problem or issue;
  • Assess the scientific basis of public health and disease prevention programs;
  • Identify and apply the appropriate quantitative and/or qualitative methods used in prevention program development and evaluation; and
  • Understand basic epidemiologic and statistical methods used in the health care and public health literature.
