Students are trained in epidemiologic study design; statistical analysis; and the biological principles underlying human diseases.  Students utilize their training to implement epidemiologic surveillance and research studies, providing evidence-based information to promote health and prevent disease and injuries. The concentration also provides physician training for the Preventive Medicine Residency Program. Concentration coursework includes: analytical epidemiology; biostatistics; research methods; disease surveillance, chronic disease epidemiology; genetic & molecular
epidemiology; cancer prevention & control; injury epidemiology & control; and epidemiology of communicable diseases. Elective coursework includes:  clinical trials; statistical methods in genetic association studies; relational databases; and
introduction to survival analysis.
