SPA is honored to host Chief Counsel Corina Almeida. Ms. Almeida serves as Chief Counsel for the Denver Area of Responsibility of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) within the Department of Homeland Security. In her capacity as Chief Counsel, Ms. Almeida serves as the principal legal advisor and consultant to the ICD Special Agent in Charge and ICE Field Office Directors in all legal matters relation to ICE activities in five states. She also directs and supervises the work and prosecution efforts of all ICE attorneys assigned to the Denver Area of Responsibility. Ms. Almeida will be providing an overview and answering questions on the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration Customs Enforcement, and the DHS Office of Principal Legal Advisor.

The Denver Office,Department of Homeland Security, has hired two SPA Criminal Justice students in the last year! Please join us in showing support for the DHS andfurthering the SPA-DHS partnership.

This is a mandatory session for MPA students planning to register for PAD 5361 Advanced Seminar in Spring 2010. The orientation prepares you to identify a project and client and to develop a prospectus in preparation for the beginning of the course. If you plan to enroll in PAD 5361 in the Fall, you areencouraged but not required to attend.

Orientation information will beemailed to students in the online MPA program in mid-November. The instructor for the online course, Dr. Malcolm Goggin, will be available by phone/email to answer questions.

How a student spends their Two Million Minutes – in class, at home studying, playing sports, working, sleeping, socializing or just goofing off — will affect their economic prospects for the rest of their lives.

How do most American high school students spend this time? What about students in the rest of the world? How do family, friends and society influence a student’s choices for time allocation? What implications do their choices haveon their future and on a country’s economic future?

The Office of Student Life, the School of Public Affairs, andthe Department of Economics are excited to host Dr. Robert Glennon, Morris K. Udall professor of Law and Public Policy at the University of Arizona. Dr. Glennon’s recent book “Unquenchable: America’s Water Crisis and What to do about it”, and continued research in the area of water have drawn significant national attention. He recently appeared on The DailyShow with John Stewart to discuss water issues and his new book. In addition to Dr. Glennon’s lecture, he will participate in a panel discussionon Friday at 10am to discuss research opportunities in the areas of waterand sustainability at UC Denver and in Colorado’s Front Range.
