Pre-K

According to the U.S. Department of Education, $5 billion of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds will be allocated for early childhood education. Funds will be distributed though formula and competitive grants.

•Competitive Grants for Head Start Expansion: 
          $1 billion available nationwide
•Competitive Grants for Early Head Start Expansion: 
          $1.1 billion available nationwide
•Child Care and Development Block Grants (CCDEBG)
           Colorado’s Share:
           $21,138,453 non -targeted funds
           $2,009,872 targeted funds for quality
              expansion
           $1,163,979 targeted funds for 
              infants/toddlers

•Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B & C Preschool Formula Grants
            Colorado’s Share:
            $5,281,455 for Part B preschool grants
            $6,950,136 for Part C infant and  
             toddler grants.

•Title I Formula Grants  $111 million in Title I grants will go to Colorado’s  local educational agencies which can be spent on early childhood education programs.
