Bio: Dail A. Neugarten joined the faculty of the School of Public Affairs in 1977. She served as Assistant Dean, Associate Dean and Acting Dean while undertaking her research and teaching activities. In 1988 she created and became the Executive Director of the National Leadership Institute on Aging. The Institute, funded by the U. S. Administration on Aging, was devoted to promoting the leadership skills of professionals responsible for the design and delivery of human services in our aging society. Prior to becoming the Institute's Director, Dr. Neugarten, on loan from the University, was a Senior Associate at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's Western Executive Seminar CenterShe was also a postdoctoral policy analyst in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Neugarten has served on many nonprofit boards, including Total Long-Term Care, The Legal Center for Persons with Disabilities and Older Persons, and Seniors Inc. She was an organizational development consultant throughout the country and worked with communities and community-based organizations to improve their capacity and effectiveness. She has been a committed volunteer at the Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross and at the University of Colorado Hospital.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Neugarten received her B.A. from Lake Forest College in 1966. A graduate student at the University of Southern California, she was awarded her Master's Degree in Public Administration in 1969, and her Ph.D. in 1973.
