Christine Velez Badar, M.A., is a Research Associate with the Center for the Improvement of Public Management and the Center for Public-Private Sector Cooperation (the Centers) at the University of Colorado Denver. She designs and manages Centers databases, synthesizes and analyzes data and does geographic mapping. She is an expert in MS Access, MS Excel, SPSS and GIS mapping. She has more than 13 years of experience as a database manager and analyst.

Ms. Badars' substantive focuses include housing, education, and work with low-income populations. She designed sophisticated data tracking systems for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Indian Housing Block Grant Program (IHBG). She analyzed and mapped complex administrative data sets including U.S. Census, HUD and Colorado Department of Health and Human Services. She provided technical assistance, including on-site assistance, to a number of Indian tribes as part of the IHBG program.

Ms. Badar is a native Spanish speaker and has worked with diverse populations including monolingual Spanish speakers from different countries, Indian Tribes, rural communities and vulnerable populations. She planned the conference and worked as a translator for the U.S.-Nicaragua Housing Policy Leadership Forum; conducted DIAL-3 Assessments in English and Spanish with preschool children in the Denver Metropolitan Area; translated surveys from English to Spanish for clients including the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV), the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA), the Colorado Department of Human Services Welfare Reform Program, and the Colorado Statewide Homeless Count. She did English to Spanish translation of meeting agendas, consent forms, cover letters, brochures, and fliers for The Colorado Parent Information and Resource Center (CPIRC), The North High School Reform Committee, The Nicaragua-U.S. Housing Policy Leadership Forum, and The Colorado Trust's Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative.

Ms. Badar is responsible for:

  • Database design and maintenance
  • Survey design and analysis
  • Generating random survey samples
  • Field data collection
  • Conducting interviews and focus groups in Spanish
  • Translating survey instruments from English to Spanish
  • Report writing
  • Library and web research
  • Data file transfers
  • GIS mapping in ArcView

Ms. Badar holds a BA in Human Relations from St. Joseph's College and an MA in Sociology from Michigan State University.
