Bio: Sam joined SPA in June 2007. For the last three years he has managed the Democracy Project at the Gill Foundation in Denver. This national project served 400 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) and allied non-profit organizations with get-out-the-vote, lobbying, and fundraising tools. While at the Gill Foundation, Sam also reviewed grant requests and made grant awards, oversaw the development of a 12 million record voting block of gay-friendly individuals, and trained over 1000 activists in 21 states on movement-building strategies. Prior to the Gill Foundation, Sam was the Executive Director of the Colorado Chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, where he developed a training program on domestic violence prevention for health care professionals. Sam currently serves on the board of Community Shares of Colorado and has volunteered on several campaigns for public office. He has previously served on the boards of SAFE Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, and the Ford Motor Company Dispute Settlement Program. Sam holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Vermont. He is a 2006 graduate of the Denver Community Leadership Forum.
