In the fall of 2007, the U.S. Peace Corps accepted the School or Public Affairs to advance the Peace Corps Fellows/USA program. Through the program, the School offers a competitive fellowship to students who have successfully served in the Peace Corps. Our commitment to selected students is to provide up to two years of tuition assistance as well a paid internship with a community agency. Up to two Peace Corps Fellows will be supported by the School of Public Affairs at any given time.
Selected SPA Peace Corps Fellows will receive:
- The opportunity to earn a graduate degree from the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver, a NASPAA accredited institution ranked in the top 12% of programs nationwide.
- Tuition assistance of $3,000 per academic year for up to two years, provided a student remains in good academic standing.
- A paid internship with a governmental or nonprofit organization. At a minimum, we request that participating community organizations commit to funding a student for 10 hours per week, for the 32-week school year, at a minimum wage of $10 per hour.
In total, this would amount to a minimum financial commitment of $3,200 per year, and $6,400 in total for two years.
Award of a fellowship depends on a number of factors: funding availability, a student’s academic and experiential profile, and a match with a community partner.
