Welcome to the University of Colorado Denver Downtown Campus commencement website!  This website contains all valuable information for all spring 2008 graduates and their families. 

Below are Frequently Asked Questions that are very important for the ceremony for the graduate as well as their guests.

General

  • When are the upcoming dates for commencement? 
    Dates for future commencement ceremonies are available under the
    Future Dates link on the left-hand navigation column.

  • Do my guests need a ticket to enter the ceremony? 
    No. 

  • How many guests can a graduate invite?
    Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.  There is no limit on the number of guests you can bring to any of the commencement ceremonies at the University of Colorado Denver. 

  • How long will the commencement ceremony last?
    The ceremony will last approximately 2 hours.
  • What does the schedule for the morning of commencement look like?
    The morning of May 17 starts bright and early for the graduates as well as their family and friends, click here for additional information. 

  • How do I know if I am registered to walk?  How do I know if I am eligible to graduate?
    If you rented your Cap and Gown, you are thereby registered to walk?  Eligibility is determined by the schools and colleges.
  • Where can I park for commencement?  How much is parking?
    Ample parking is available on the Auraria Campus
    .  Parking will be free the day of the ceremony. 

  • Are there seating and parking accommodations for those with special needs? Reservations are no longer being accepted. 

  • Will there be a sign language interpreter?
    Yes, there will be an interpreter at all commencement ceremonies.  (

  • Will the ceremony be broadcast live? 
    Yes.  University of Colorado Denver Downtown Campus Commencement will be broadcast over the internet! The live broadcast is provided for family and friends who are unable to attend the ceremony. The live webcast will take place on the UCD Downtown Campus Commencement website.

  • Where can I purchase my University of Colorado license plates? 
    The
    University of Colorado Denver Downtown Campus Alumni Association will have a table available at the Cap and Gown pick up on May 16 and then again at the commencement ceremony on May 17. (Details)
  • How do I obtain a VISA letter for international guests?
    Please contact 
    international@cudenver.edu for more information, with the subject line "VISA Request for Commencement."
  • Could you please tell me what the school colors are?  I am planning a party for my graduate and wanted to match the colors of the linens to the school colors.
    Silver and gold are the official colors of the University of Colorado Denver.
  • Who is going to be the commencement speaker?
    The University of Colorado Denver Downtown Campus will host President Benson and Chancellor M. Roy Wilson as the commencement speakers at the spring ceremony.
  • How many graduates are expected to walk in this ceremony?
    There will be 1061 graduates walking at the spring 2008 ceremony. 


Graduates

  • When do I apply for graduation? 
    The deadline to apply for graduation is the census date of the semester they wish to graduate

  • If I am a Summer Graduate, can I walk in the Spring Commencement? 
    No.  Summer graduates are only allowed to walk in the December ceremony.
  • Where do graduates report the morning of commencement? 
    Graduates must assemble in the PE/Event Center, no later than 8:00 a.m. wearing your gown, cap and tassel.
  • I am graduating with Honors, who do I need to contact in order to obtain my Honor Cord?
     
    After Monday, April 28, please contact your school or college to obtain the honor cord to be worn on the day of Commencement.

  • How do I order my cap and gown, class ring, and / or announcements?
    All commencement related materials (announcements, caps, gowns, tassels, class rings and the Stoles of Gratitude) may be purchased on May 16 between the hours of 1 and 7 p.m. in the Tivoli Turnhalle
  • I am unable to order my cap and gown during the designated hours...can someone else do that for me.
    Yes, as long as that individual has your measurements.  
    o       Height with shoes (measure from top of head to floor)
    o       Cap size (measures around the head approximately 1 inch above the brow,  pulling the tape measure snugly)
    o       Chest size (Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, Extra-Extra Large)

  • How long does it take to receive my announcements once I order them ? 
    From the time of placing your order, please allow 5  to 7 days for printing and shipping. 

  • Can I purchase or rent my cap and gown? 
    Yes, they can be purchased by contacting Willsie Cap and Gown Co

  • How much does it cost to rent my cap and gown? 
    Rental Fees - Late fees were implemented on April 9

     Bachelor’s

    Payment must be made by either cash or check. Credit cards will not be accepted. The tassel, included in the rental fee, is yours to keep. Note that about half of the rental fee is directed to help defray the cost of the commencement ceremony.

  • Who do I make my check payable to for the rental of my Cap and Gown? 
    Please make checks payable to UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER.

  • I lost my PINK receipt...can I still pick up my cap and gown?
    Yes, you must bring in a photo id.

  • When can I pick up my cap and gown?
    Caps and gowns must be picked up on Friday, May 16 from 1-7pm at the Tivoli Turnhalle.

  • When do I have to return my cap and gown? 
    Your cap and gown must be returned to the tables Flagpole immediately following the ceremony.  You may be subject to a late fee if your regalia is not returned

  • What color is my tassel or hood?
    Click here for specific colors. 

  • When do I receive my diploma and transcript with my degree recorded?
    Transcripts will be available late June


    The diploma will be mailed to the address on the student's graduation application in late July.

  • I will not be participating in the ceremony but still want my diploma cover, what do I have to do in order to obtain this? 
    You can still pick up a diploma cover from the Registrar's Office, beginning in June. 

  • I want to give special recognition to a special someone who helped turn the dream of a college education into a reality.  Is there a special gift that I can give them?

    The University of Colorado Denver Alumni Association has a very special gift available for graduates to recognize those special individuals who helped pave the road to a degree and a college education.  The Putting Him/Her Through (PHT) degree is the perfect way you can officially recognize those special individuals for all the help they provided you throughout your college career.

    Proceeds from the sales of the PHT Degrees will benefit the UCD Downtown Denver Alumni Association Student Scholarship Fund.

  • How do I know what address my diploma will be mailed to?
    To ensure that you receive your diploma, please update your permanent address on the S.M.A.R.T. website.

  • Will there be a professional photographer?
    Each graduate will be photographed by a professional photographer from GradFoto as the graduate receives the diploma and is greeted on the stage.  Free color proofs will be mailed to graduates several weeks after commencement, at this point you will have the option of purchasing your photos in various packages. 
  • Is there a reception after the ceremony?
    Immediately following the ceremony, all schools and colleges plan to hold receptions for graduates and their guests to meet faculty members, and to socialize for a while.  Click here to find your school's / college's reception. 

Guests

  • What time should I plan to arrive at the Auraria Campus Field on the morning of Commencement?
    Guests should plan on arriving before 9:00 am to have time to be in their seats. It is expected that 7,000 people will attend commencement, and not everyone will be able to have visual site lines to the stage.  No tickets are required for the ceremony.  Early arrival guarantees the best seating. 

    There will be no seating from 8:45-9:15 am in order for the academic procession to have unimpaired access entering the field.  Fire codes require that aisles be kept clear at all times. 

  • How do I know where my graduate will be sitting and in which aisle he/she will be walking down?  Click here for the map.
    College of Arts and Media; College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and College of Engineering and Applied Science will be lined up on two colors RED and YELLOW.

    School of Public Affairs; School of Education and Human Development; Business School and College of Architecture and Planning will be lined up on two colors GREEN and BLUE.
