EFFECTIVE CHANGE MANAGEMENT:

HANDLING TRANSITIONS SUCCESSFULLY

University of Colorado Denver

Academic and Student Affairs Units

The University Leadership Development Institute (ULDI) in conjunction with the UCD Provost’s Office and Human Resources Office hosted a series of workshops on managing change effectively during fall 2006. The program is designed for staff at all levels.

The morning session focused on the key considerations in managing personal change and the change in which others are involved. The afternoon session involved a panel of managers who will discuss and answer questions concerning current and impending changes within  academic and student affairs areas across UCD.

This program is designed to help participants:

  • Understand the nature of change and transitions
  • Understand the positive aspects of change, identify potential benefits in the reorganization
  • Understand how individuals may differ in their reactions to change based on their style preference
  • Appreciate the kinds of issues individuals experience and the behaviors they exhibit in transitioning through change
  • Develop a number of interventions you can apply to help yourself and others in the transition process
  • Plan for how to address current changes for yourself and others
The workshops were facilitated by Jerry Davies, a human resources trainer and consultant who has extensive experience in developing workshops and providing graduate education. Jerry spent 31 years in the Colorado Department of Personnel and Administration, serving as a division manager and directed the state’s training program for over 20 years. In addition, he has directed training for a private sector organization providing programs internationally.  His educational credentials include serving as an instructor at the University of Wyoming and serving as adjunct faculty with the UCD Graduate School of Public Affairs where he has delivered a number of courses. He holds BA and MA degrees in Communications from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an MPA and Ph.D. in Public Administration from the University of Colorado Denver.
