Non-Degree Admissions
---
(only taking a few classes?)

Many students at the University of Colorado Denver enroll without seeking to earn a degree. These include working adults who are looking to earn professional development credits, students who need to fulfill prerequisites for other programs, or those looking to supplement academic credit at a different institution altogether.

UC Denver recognizes these students' particular needs, and welcomes them in the same manner as all other students. At the same time, there are different admissions processes and requirements for those coming to UC Denver as non-degree students.

Admission as a Non-Degree Student

  • Students who have been previously admitted or refused admission as a degree-seeking student at UC Denver are not eligible to attend as non-degree students. Exception: if the student was admitted and subsequently graduated from UC Denver, they are now eligible to take classes as a non-degree student.
  • You must be age 20 or older to apply as a non-degree student for the Fall or Spring semester.
  • Students not eligible to return to institutions they previously attended OR who have less than a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average are not eligible for admission as a non-degree student at UC Denver.
  • Application processing takes approximately 48 hours. You will receive notification by mail.
  • If you choose to attend UCDHSC as a non-degree student and subsequently apply to attend as a undergraduate degree seeking student (transfer), you will be required to submit an official copy of your high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores. This is required regardless of your age or the number of college credits you have earned.
  • If you are not quite ready to apply, you may request an admissions Packet to be sent to you. Otherwise, applicants ready to apply, please scroll down to "How to Apply".

Financial Concerns

  • Non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid, most scholarships, or tuition assistance.
  • Please refer to the Schedule of Courses for payment deadlines.
  • Non-degree students who have previously earned a baccalaureate degree are classified as graduate students and assessed graduate tuition regardless of the level of the class(es) they are taking. However, if students are taking undergraduate courses ONLY, they may be assessed undergraduate tuition. Students must contact the Office of Records and Registration at 303-556-2389 to request this special tuition rate.

How to Apply

  1. A non-degree application is available in three formats: paper, PDF downloadable format, and on-line submission via the internet. Request the paper version from the Office of Admissions. You may download the application in PDF format (you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and download the non-degree application. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, you can obtain a FREE copy ), or submit the application on-line
  2. Return the completed application by the deadline for the desired term along with a $25 non-refundable application fee.

No additional credentials are required for non-degree applicants. It is important to note that non-degree applicants must be 20 years of age or older in order to be admitted, and are not eligible for financial aid, most scholarships, or tuition assistance. Additionally, some courses are not open to non-degree applicants. Courses taken at non-degree status are for UCDHSC credit and students are required to pay the non-degree tuition rate and required fees.

Registration

  • Some courses are not open for registration by non-degree students without special permission. Non-degree students should check the restrictions listed for each course in the Schedule of Courses.
  • All persons who wish to take graduate business courses as a non-degree student must complete a Non-Degree Application Part II available in the Graduate Business Programs Office, provide unofficial copies of transcripts, verifying a 3.0 grade-point average and submit by the following deadlines, July 25 for Fall, December 23 for Spring, and May 1 for Summer. For exceptions to the deadline, please call 303-556-5900.
  • You will be academically and financially responsible for any courses for which you register. If you fail to withdraw from classes, even though you have never attended or you have stopped attending, you remain financially liable for the tuition and fees.
  • If you plan to transfer non-degree credits to a degree program at UCDHSC, please check with the academic advisor for that department to ascertain the maximum number of non-degree hours that can be transferred to the degree program.
  • Continuation as a non-degree student is contingent upon maintaining an overall grade-point average of 2.0 upon completion of 12 or more semester hours.
  • Your earned credits will appear on an official University of Colorado transcript.
  • After admission, you will receive registration information under separate cover or you may call the Records and Registration office at 303-556-2389.
