Globalization

The disturbances led by opponents to “globalization” at the meetings of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Seattle in 1999 (and in meetings of almost all international institutions that relate to trade) have focused on the bad side of globalization. In the spring of 2001 the CIBER decided that an attempt should be made to establish a true dialogue on problems and issues related to globalization. A group of interested faculty members from different disciplines agreed to review and discuss the issues raised by opponents of globalization. An objective was to identify real problems and actions that might be taken to address these issues. Even on such a contentious topic, views can be exchanged among people who respect each other and discussions can ensue on problems that usually have no simple solutions. The theme “Dialogue on Globalization” is the basis for a variety of current Colorado CIBER initiatives.

Globalization - Annotated Bibliography

A globalization faculty team reviewed a large amount of information which was then annotated into a bibliography on globalization. This includes reports by staffs of the international bodies that affect globalization and by groups who oppose or support it. The more significant reports and articles are summarized with references to web pages where the information can be found.

JIBS/AIB CIBER Invitational Research Conference

The Annual Conference on Emerging Research Frontiers in International Business Studies is organized by the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) and the Academy of International Business (AIB), and is co-sponsored by select CIBERs including the Colorado CIBER. This event represents the official exploration arm of JIBs. The aims of the conference are:
  • To encourage the exploration of emerging research ideas in an innovative and highly interactive environment, free from the constraints of traditional conference formats.
  • To build a cross cultural community of international scholars across both the social sciences and the functional areas of international business.
  • To facilitate open discourse and legitimize the exploration of new research domains.
  • To redirect or shut down tired or outmoded themes.

This network is co-sponsored by Brigham Young University and the University of Colorado Denver CIBERs. It has a steering committee comprised of faculty members from the Rocky Mountain Region that determines the annual activities including an annual conference. Each year grants are awarded to faculty members of the RMCIBER.
