National CIBERs
Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBERs) were created by Congress under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 to help US companies prosper in an international economy by marshaling the resources of select universities and enhancing their abilities to provide highly effective, internationally oriented educational, research and outreach initiatives. The CIBER program is administered by the US Department of Education under Title VI, Part B of the Higher Education Act of 1965.

As one of 31 CIBERs and the only CIBER in Colorado, the University of Colorado CIBER serves as a regional and national resource to students, faculty, public policy makers, business people and the general public. Mandatory activities under the CIBER program are:
  • Interdisciplinary curricula incorporating foreign language and international studies into business disciplines
  • Interdisciplinary curricula incorporating business topics into foreign language and international studies programs
  • Intensive programs for business and community members that enhance international business expertise and awareness
  • Collaborative programs and activities that enhance international expertise and awareness at other educational institutions and in the community
  • International business research designed to promote integrated curricula
