Poland and Germany

Executive MBA program
May 2005

The Executive MBA students selected Poland and Germany for their May 2005 study tour. This travel is part of the Global Business Issues course which integrates theory and practice through an examination of global business environments. A nine-day business tour provides first-hand experience on how international businesses are organized and presents an opportunity for face-to-face exchange of experiences between executives from the US and their foreign counterparts. The CU Executive MBA is a rigorous 21 month program for business executives.
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

May 23-July 30, 2005

A group of UCD anthropology undergraduate and international health graduate students went to Mongolia for 8 weeks of summer study on global health issues and internship research placements with clinics, international non-government organizations and the Mongolian Ministry of Health. Local experts lectured on globalization as well as on Mongolian health issues, including equity of services and the interaction of various governance institutions. Student placements were made that provided opportunities to learn about and participate in global health practices including governance, policy, administration, public health intervention and social services provision. Local experts lectured on globalization as well as on Mongolian health issues, including equity of services and the interaction of various governance institutions.
China and Thailand

January 2005

UCD MBA/Health graduate students took a study tour to Beijing, China and Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand to learn about and experience new ways of providing health care. 

In China, students toured a variety of hospitals and health care systems including private/international, public/municipal, traditional Chinese medicine, heart, tumor and maternity hospitals. The class also examined social, cultural, and other business institutions including a visit to an orphanage and visits to the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Chinese opera, kung fu shows, local markets and small businesses.

In Thailand, students learned about traditional Thai medicine, about HIV/AIDS and reproductive health issues, about efforts to offset the damage from sex trafficking and slavery, and about how a leper colony has turned into a community rehab facility. The class also visited the Grand Palace, Klongs urban village, and took a river boat tour.

Costa Rica

2003

A Marketing in Costa Rica course was held in 2003, a 2 week intensive study abroad course focusing on marketing. Several company visits included Dos Pinos (a dairy), Pizza Hut, a grocery store, an advertising agency, and a marketing research firm. The trip also featured a number of guest lectures and discussions on marketing in Costa Rica, a visit to Monte Verde (a tourist town in the rain forest) and writing a marketing plan for a hotel there. Each student wrote a paper on a different aspect of marketing in Costa Rica before the trip began and each student picked a different product to study while in Costa Rica.
