International College at Beijing

The International College at Beijing (ICB) was established in 1994 as an educational partnership between China Agricultural University (CAU) and the University of Colorado Denver (UCD). The agreement reached between UCD and Chinese educational authorities, which led to the creation of the International College of Beijing, is now recognized as being among the first bilateral educational programs authorized by the Chinese government. ICB/UCD offers a carefully designed program leading to a baccalaureate degree from UCD to Chinese students. The courses are taught in English and cover the same subject matter as the courses taught on the UCD downtown Denver Campus. Currently, this unique educational program offers degrees in Communication and Economics. The degree program was accredited by the North Central Association (NCA) of the United States in fall 1995.

About CAU

China Agricultural University, which houses the ICB program, has recently been named a top-twenty research institution by the People's Republic of China. The student population at CAU is 8,100 ( Bryan we have to check this figure), divided between its east and west campuses. CAU undergraduate students can earn degrees in 47 different programs in five subject areas: biology and life science; engineering and technology; resources and environmental science; economic and social development; and information and computer science. Master's, doctorate and post-doctorate degrees are also available in the above areas. The International College at Beijing is one of 18 independent colleges and schools at CAU.

ICB is located on the east campus of China Agricultural University, located in the Haidian district north of downtown Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. The campus is a thirty-minute ride from downtown Beijing, Beijing International Airport and major cultural centers like Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace.

Academic Programs at ICB

ICB students are selected based on scores from the rigorous national exam and TOEFL scores (minimum requirements are 525 paper-based, 197 computer-based, or 71 Internet-based or a score of 5.5 on the ILETS).

Students attending the International College Beijing may pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in either communications or economics.

Majoring in Communication: Communication is a discipline concerned with the study of messages in the context of human relationships. Courses in communication examine the nature, use, and role of messages among individuals and within small groups, organizations, and society in whatever form they assume--oral, written, visual, mediated, and technological.

Majoring in Economics: The economics major provides flexibility and opportunity and can take you in many directions, both inside and outside of the field of economics. In fact, most economics majors do not work as economists, but in business careers of all varieties. The analytical and quantitative skills that one acquires as an economics major are much in demand in the job market and are also highly attractive to law schools and M.B.A. programs. Whatever your career plans, economics training can give you the edge you need to further your long-term goals.
