(Sept. 29, 2009) The University of Colorado Denver Fire and Life Safety and Facilities will be conducting building evacuation drills for tenants in 1380 Lawrence St. and 1250 14th St. on Thursday, Oct. 8, between 9 a.m. and noon.
The drills will provide tenants and building management an opportunity to become familiar with emergency procedures that might require quick and orderly departure to a designated relocation area outside.
The following is a summary of tenant responsibilities during a building evacuation drill and in the event of a true emergency. Please pass this on to all students, staff, and other tenants prior to the drill:
- When a fire alarm goes off on your floor, everyone on that floor is to evacuate the building immediately. If a fire alarm has gone off in the building, but not on your floor, wait for further instructions over the PA system.
- Use the stairs to evacuate – do not use the elevators.
- Do not carry books, heavy/bulky items or coffee cups while evacuating down the stairwell.
- Follow the directives of the floor-wardens and building personnel (wearing red caps) – they will guide tenants out of the building towards the relocation area.
- Stay in the relocation area and look for your floor-warden to regroup – do not wander off!
- Wait until the “all-clear” is given for tenants to re-enter the building.
If you have a physical or medical condition that prohibits your walking down the stairwell during the drill, notify your department’s floor-warden prior to the drill. You will be instructed as to where to stage on your floor during the drill.
UC Denver Fire and Life Safety is committed to providing the tenants in 1380 Lawrence St. and 1250 14th Street with clear instructions and practice of emergency building evacuations. Your cooperation will ensure that things go smoothly and quickly, both during the drill and in the event of a true emergency.
