Men over 40 needed for joint study

(March 23, 2009) Men 40 years or older are needed to participate in a research study on joint laxity and its relationship to blood hormone levels.

Men between 40-80 years of age who have never had an injury or diagnosis of arthritis at the base of your thumb are encouraged to take part.

Volunteers will have a single blood draw, an X-Ray of both hands, an examination of joint laxity and will complete questionnaires.

Research on minimally invasive total knee replacement

(Jan. 15, 2009) Volunteers between the ages of 50 and 85 years are invited to participate in a research study that will evaluate whether minimally invasive total knee replacements (TKR) improve muscle function compared to traditional TKR. Potential volunteers must have osteoarthritis and be candidates for a TKR.

Volunteers will be asked to participate in 6 sessions over 1 year, each lasting about 1 hour. In addition, research staff will aid in coordinating physical therapy with therapists using a progressive exercise program, at no extra cost to the patient. Financial compensation is available for participation in this research study. If you are interested in participating or would like to receive additional information, contact the Muscle Performance Lab in the Physical Therapy Program, University of Colorado Denver at (303)724-9590 or TKA.Study@ucdenver.edu.
