Students check out health care options

(Oct. 4, 2008) More than 1,000 prospective health care providers converged on the Colorado Convention Center on Friday, Oct. 3 as part of the School of Medicine anniversary event.

These middle school, high school and undergrad college students – many from underserved and rural communities – received an often hands-on education in the opportunity among the 80 interactive and historical health care exhibits.

Among the many exhibits, students tried out burn wound debridement, removed a tumor, practiced removing fluid from an arthritic joint, watched the birth of a baby and dissected the “Visible Human.”

With help from the Colorado Health Foundation, the Caring for Colorado Foundation, the Rose Community Foundation and the Colorado Area Health Education Center System, the medical school shared its scientific achievements and gave students a look at the amazing technology and simulators that help train the health care professionals of the future.
