(March 20, 2009) James Kaferly, 30, received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Regis University. For a time after he graduated from college, he lived in Mexico and worked at a youth center. He decided to pursue a medical degree because it is something tangible that can help the underserved no matter where his life takes him. Kaferly received a scholarship from the National Health Service Corps and following his upcoming residency in pediatrics, he will fulfill an additional three-year commitment working with underserved populations throughout the United States and/or its territories. He got his No. 1 choice, being matched with Children’s Hospital in Boston for his residency. His family and grandma were with him for Match Day.
