Dusty Richardson: Glad to be at UCH

(March 20, 2009) Dusty Richardson, 28, grew up hunting and fishing with his father in Wyoming and says that is where he learned about the anatomy of animals—he spent his days in the great outdoors learning about animals from his father, a chiropractor. While attending the University of Wyoming, Richardson began focusing on brain research in his studies but soon realized he wanted more people interaction, which led to his decision to become a neurosurgeon. As a medical student at UC Denver, he was involved with neurology research around deep brain stimulation to treat Parkinson’s disease. Richardson finished his classes in December and passed his board exams early; he says he wanted to do something this semester to keep his brain active so he applied for a position teaching anatomy and physiology at the Community College of Denver to pass the time. Dusty is married and has a baby girl (5 months). He and his wife are excited to be matched at University of Colorado Hospital so that they can stay here.
