Sculpture students to pour it on at Denver Art Museum Sept. 26

(Sept. 19, 2008) University of Colorado Denver College of Arts & Media Sculpture Program students will be performing a dramatic night iron pour 6-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, subtitled PYRO as the final “Untitled” event of the Denver Art Museum season.

The students, along with CAM Professor Rian Kerrane, will set up a furnace or cupola, outside the museum to perform a night iron pour with ceramic shell and sand molds of their own artwork to cast for the evening’s event. The process begins with an elaborate setup followed by students completing molds they have prepared and finishes with students participating in the actual iron pours.

Cast artwork and examples of the process in various stages will be on display and an information booth will include two worktables for the public to carve sand tiles which will also be cast in iron onsite that evening. The tables will be manned by UC Denver College of Arts &  Media (CAM) students explaining the process. These tiles are available to the public for $10 with the proceeds benefiting the UC Denver Sculpture Club.
