Bike to Work Day 2008 a rousing success
(June 18, 2008) Bike to Work Day dawned bright and sunny this year, greeting riders with a reason to get out of bed early. This year was the first year that all of the campus institutions joined forces to put together a single, campus-wide breakfast station.
Riders were welcomed with coffee, bagels, bread and pastries to power them through their morning. Other vendors provided information on their goods and services, and Pedal Pushers Cyclery performed bicycles repairs on the spot. Aurora City Councilman Brad Pierce also joined the festivities by riding his bike to campus from the Aurora Municipal Building with an escort from the Fitzsimons TMA.
The campus had 550 registrants on the DRCOG Bike to Work Day website, and 424 riders registered at the breakfast station. The campus breakfast station was the largest in Arapahoe County and the 3rd largest in the Denver metro area. Overall, participation in Bike to Work Day rose 43 percent.
Those who signed in on campus were entered to win some prizes, including a new commuter bicycle. Winners are:
-
