RSVP now for ethnic studies open house, auction Oct. 1

(Sept. 15, 2008) The Ethnic Studies program at the University of Colorado Denver has long enabled students and the community to develop an greater understanding of ethnicity and its significance in contemporary American society. On Wednesday, Oct. 1, the Department of Ethnic Studies is celebrating where it’s been, the strides it has made and the hopes for the future at its 7th annual open house.

Each year, the department honors one person for his or her support and contributions to the cause of diversity and inclusion and to the department. In addition, this year ethnic artwork from artists/boutiques in the community will be available for auction. Proceeds will benefit general programming and textbook scholarships for the department.

Events begin with a silent auction preview at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and program at noon. The open house will be held at 1380 Lawrence St., 2nd floor Terrance Room. Please RSVP to 303-556-2700 or contact Jennifer.Williams@ucdenver.edu.

The department offers an ethnic studies minor, a certificate in cultural diversity studies and an individually structured major. The Ethnic Studies minor focuses on the history, culture, and contemporary situation of Asian Americans, African Americans, Latinos, and American Indians.
