Best practices outlined at Human Resources Search Fair

(Sept. 5, 2008) More than 100 search chairs, members, hiring authorities, search committee staff, HR liaisons, and all others committed to recruiting diverse new talent to the university took part in the Human Resources Search Fair Sept. 5 in the Tivoli Turnhalle.

Representatives from nearly every school and college and several departments on both the Downtown and Anschutz campuses gathered to try to better hone the search and recruiting process.

"The different sessions really complemented each other to provide a balanced view of recruiting highly qualified and diverse talent to the university," stressed Kevin Jacobs, assistant vice chancellor of human resources.

Speakers included Jan Greenwood of Greenwood and Associates and Liz Ryan, leadership and career consultant, who provided strategies for effective recruitment of faculty and staff the latest trends in recruitment and creating a diverse applicant pool.

In addition to perks from vendors including the Denver Newspaper Agency and Jobing.com, participants received search committee and search process training advice and took advantage of consulting, advertising and marketing resources.

“Attendance was great for the first year and the participant evaluations were incredibly positive,” Jacobs says. “We are already thinking about additional sessions for the coming years to expand on the information provided.”

The search committee training and Ryan’s presentation will be available on the HR website.
