Spam-screening improvement being implemented for Downtown Campus e-mail
(May 9, 2008) Starting May 9, the Information Technology Services (ITS) team is replacing our PureMessage anti-spam mail gateway system with a new system called Ironport for the cudenver.edu domain. This change will be transparent to users, with no associated downtime. But users may notice a new look to their spam quarantine messages. This mail gateway and anti-spam change will affect only UC Denver employees and students who have cudenver.edu or email.cudenver.edu addresses. Users with uchsc.edu or ucdenver.edu addresses have already been moved to the new system and will not be affected by this change.
The IT Services team believes the IronPort system should improve our ability reduce the volume of incoming spam, as well as allow you to access and manage your own spam quarantine through a web interface. Similar to the PureMessage system, you will receive a daily quarantine digest from "Spam Admin,” showing all quarantined spam messages addressed to your email. You can release quarantined messages by clicking on the ‘Release’ link in your quarantine digest.
During our conversion from the PureMessage system to the IronPort system, you may receive two quarantine digests, if you have messages that have been quarantined by both systems. We have posted a new IronPort anti-spam FAQ, as well as instructions on how to manage the quarantine digests at: http://www.ucdenver.edu/admin/its/email/IronportFAQ.htm
