Study on insulin action

(July 29, 2008) Participants are needed for research exploring how the level of adiponectin in the blood is controlled by fat tissue.

Participant requirements:

  • male or female aged 18-45 (females should have a normal menstrual cycle and should not be using oral contraceptives)
  • moderately overweight, with body mass index (BMI) of 28-35 (to calculate BMI, visit http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmi-m.htm)
  • with or without a diagnosis of diabetes (not taking insulin)
  • must not vigorously exercise more than three hours per week

 Subjects participating in the study will receive:

  • dietary analysis/diabetes screening
  • body fat measurement from DEXA
  • controlled three-day diet
  • financial compensation
