Diversity report sent to Blue Ribbon Commission
Members of the University of Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission on Diversity have received a new report detailing a range of diversity-related programs and results of those efforts for the consolidated University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center (UCDHSC).

'Success Realized: One Student at a Time'
As of July 1—the new fiscal year—the Office of Enrollment and Student Affairs will become the Office of Enrollment and Student Engagement. But that doesn’t mean change isn’t well underway now, says Frank Sanchez, associate vice chancellor for enrollment and student affairs. “The name reflects that we are in partnership with educational engagement and parallels the mission of the institution.”

Out and About:
Open opportunities to get acquainted

February is a time for hearts, valentines and togetherness. Two events on the downtown Denver campus gathered together folks from the far-reaching UCDHSC community, including the Chancellor’s Open house and the Ombuds Open House.

After being introduced by Provost Mark Heckler, UCDHSC Interim Chancellor Greg Stiegmann confessed to not knowing much about the downtown Denver campus before he stepped into the position, but that he has been quite impressed with all that this campus has to offer.

Staff, faculty involvement crucial to evolution
Sharing: It’s the right thing to do and—in the case of shared governance—it’s the imperative thing to do.  Three university organizations representing the downtown Denver campus are heading into a critical time of year: time to elect new members and/or reposition the veterans.

Undergrads enlighten with Dark Matter research
It’s a tremendous opportunity when undergraduate students are able to contribute their research skills to an internationally recognized experiment. Physics professor Martin E. Huber has been offering physics and electrical engineering students experience in his lab designing and testing Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) since 1991.

Denver Bound Scholars speak of being No. 1
Camellia is one of three students who spoke Feb. 16 at the Denver Bound non-residential student recruitment program update. The personal attention she received from the offices of admissions, scholarships and financial aid in addition to the campus setting made her decision easy.

Komara, CAP preserve history of Skyline Park
Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture Ann Komara loved Skyline Park in downtown Denver. She and more than two dozen students documented the park before its demolition for the first Historic American Landscapes Survey for the State of Colorado.

In person or online, Writing Center is worth extra steps
Admittedly, it’s an extra step or two, but working with the Writing Center is well worth it. Tracey McCormick, director, says although the center—located in room 206 on the second floor of Central Classroom—is off the beaten path for most UCDHSC students, going the extra distance enables the most polished piece possible.

Mayakovsky: More than a 'Must See'
Entering the Eugenia Rawls Courtyard Theatre, one would automatically think to themselves that things look surprisingly calm for a production one week away from its opening performance: the stage is set, conversations are mere whispers, and nobody is running around frantically.

Another winner: 'Copper Nickel' celebrates its fifth
On Thursday, Feb. 9, associate professor and Copper Nickel editor Jake Adam York and his student staff gathered to unveil the fifth edition of their biannual journal of art and literature.  A warm and inviting Denver Press Club beckoned guests in from the snowy night for the Copper Nickel’s celebration.

Anderson, Project Valentine keep on spreading love
Colleen Anderson, with the assistance of downtown Denver campus and business community donations and volunteers, brightened Valentines Day for 400 folks undergoing cancer treatment with her Project Valentine.

Are you ready to raise a Rock Bottom Ruckus?
Yep folks, it’s that time of year again: time to kick up yer’ heels and join in the Alumni Association’s annual Rock Bottom Ruckus, 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Rock Bottom Brewery on the 16th Street Mall. For the 14th consecutive year, the generosity of the alumni and non-alum guests, as well as soon-to-be-alumni volunteers will make this fundraiser a phenomenal success.

IT Services expands search engine access
Searching the Web site has just been made easier. Vaughn Larsen of IT Services notes that the downtown Denver campus has dumped the Google search engine on the home page and installed Infoseek in its place.

Time to gear up for Spring Open House
Spring is around the bend, which means it's time to promote all that the UCDHSC downtown Denver campus has to offer to new students. Open house—where potential students meet faculty, take tours and get answers—is Sunday, March 5, at the Auraria Event Center.
