Project Valentine getting around

She’s done it again.

Colleen Anderson, with the assistance of downtown Denver campus and business community donations and volunteers, brightened Valentines Day for 400 folks undergoing cancer treatment with her Project Valentine.

Anderson, herself a cancer survivor, started the program in 2002 handing out dozens of care packages—including books, scarves, gloves, lotions Chapstick, candies—to children, women and men undergoing cancer treatment.

This year, as the effort has grown and so has the notice. Anderson, program manager in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, was featured in an article in the Rocky Mountain News Friday, Feb. 10. On Valentines Day, volunteers Carrie Caraballa and Sue Meier were taped by 9News as they distributed gift bags. 9News interviewed Anderson Feb. 15 about Project Valentine. She was interviewed by WB2 news on Valentines Day. In addition, Anderson won the 9 Who Care Award for March and will be featured in a story in March.

But perhaps the best news of all for Anderson is, after months of undergoing clinical trials, she’s recently learned her cancer is in remission.
