Diversity Summit promotes inclusion at UCDHSC
Members of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Diversity appointed by CU President Hank Brown are continuing to discuss and develop recommendations regarding UCDHSC. They're scheduled to deliver their findings to President Brown by April 10.

When the group gathered March 4 at St. Cajetan's on the Auraria Campus they heard from faculty, students, staff and administration representing both the downtown Denver and Health Sciences Center.

Provost Mark Heckler facilitated the day-long meeting that included presentations and panels discussing and describing our consolidated efforts to support diversity and inclusion.

A detailed report (http://thunder1.cudenver.edu/blueribbon/) prepared for and delivered in advance to the commissioners provided statistics on student enrollment, faculty and staff composition, and program descriptions.

President offers reasons for optimism
Clearly, President Hank Brown knows what’s happening. The 21st president of the University of Colorado told nearly 60 downtown Denver campus staff, faculty and administrators that a choice for the finalist for the UCDHSC chancellor position was near, as was the death of post-tenure review bill HB 1284.

Chancellor finalist hears importance of diversity
M. Roy Wilson, MD, president of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and finalist for the UCDHSC chancellor position, got the message that diversity is important to the downtown Denver campus community at an open forum Monday, March 13, at St. Cajetan’s.

Interest, attendance high at Spring Open House
The university’s biannual campus visit program, Open House, attracted 1,500 participants March 5. The numbers are very similar to the Spring Open House numbers of a year ago.

Plan on something extraordinary at Bard event
Wedding ways, bicycle motors, a metro-man’s styling salon and the active life for old folks: These diverse entrepreneurial ventures have won first-rate praises and first-place prizes over the past five years at the annual Bard Center Business Plan Competition. What next? Tune in at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the Grand Hyatt in downtown Denver to find out.

Grandpa Suzuki a colorful addition to library
Jack Suzuki’s 5-foot 2-inches of smiles and sass seem contrary to his 92 years of age. In much the same way, his oil paintings in dramatic hues of red yellow and blue counter the dreary walls of the Auraria Library.

SEHD, Kozleski join forces with UN for education
The School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center is collaborating with the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to initiate research and training. Last December, UNESCO appointed Elizabeth Kozleski, associate dean for research in SEHD, as UNESCO chair of inclusive education research.

Research & Creative Activities aims to be best yet
With two new awards, abstract publication and a stellar lineup of speakers and guests, the 2006 Research and Creative Activities Symposium promises to be more outstanding than ever. The annual event featuring the outstanding works of UCDHSC downtown Denver campus students will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 14 in the North Classroom Atrium.

Provost Series: 'We Sacrifice and Still Eat Less'
At the February session of the Provost’s Lectures Series, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development the campus LETTS Committee and the Office of the Provost, Brett spoke to an audience of about 30 on the good intentioned, yet potentially vicious cycle of micro-credit.
