Golemboski explores new horizons for students, university

Carol Golemboski, assistant professor of photography, is dedicated to bringing students, faculty and art practitioners—local and international—together. Having joined the College of Arts & Media faculty in 2002, Golemboski, launched “Meet the Photo Faculty Night” in 2003. The annual event fosters a sense of community among photography majors, enabling faculty members to share their creative work and experience with students. Golemboski also is adamant about attending the important Open House events, which offer prospective students the opportunity to meet faculty and ask questions as they make important decisions about college. It’s for this service that she was chosen the CAM Excellence in Service recipient for 2006.
Golemboski’s service to students includes the coordination of a new study abroad program, Photography in Florence. She organized recruitment efforts, acted as program leader, worked extensively with the hosting art school in Italy and oversaw program operations in 2004 and again this spring.
In the winter of 2004, Golemboski initiated, coordinated and chaired the Art at the Oxford auction with a group of student and faculty volunteers. The event, held at the Oxford Hotel in downtown Denver, raised scholarship money for students participating in the study abroad program. The event received more than 150 donated art pieces from more than 70 professional artists, students and art organizations and grossed more than $16,000.
Golemboski is a member of the Southwest Regional Conference of the Society for Photographic Education and co-chaired the region SPE conference on the Auraria campus in October 2004. The conference drew more than 100 students, faculty, curators, gallery director and photographers from Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. In addition to her student-interactive service, Golemboski served on the Core Curriculum Oversight Committee, helping to pass the new Core.
