Silver and Gold reporter Marianne Goodland plays the harp as staffers partake in repast and revelry at the Fall Harvest Staff Appreciation Breakfast.

The Staff Council Fall Harvest Staff Appreciation Breakfast drew more than 100 hungry revelers to the Tivoli Turnhalle for quiche, ham, various pastries and other goodies on a chilly October morning. Staff Council sponsored the annual event, which boasts door prizes that range from fall ornaments to concert tickets.

Sue Sethney, council secretary, said the fall breakfast is a means to thank classified and professional exempt staff for their hard work. The breakfast hasn’t always been the event it is now. “My first one was a nice breakfast, but there were only three door prizes,” she recalled. “One year, the breakfast was held at St. Cajetan’s – there weren’t enough places to sit, and only muffins and coffee and juice. The food ran out and there were no door prizes.  So, the breakfast has come a long way.”

While Staff Council receives a budget from the Chancellor’s Office and chooses to spend it on the fall breakfast and the Staff Awards Luncheon in the spring.  Sethney made more than 100 neck comforters, one for each of the attendees. She also designed the table ornaments that were eventually given away as door prizes.

Sethney and all the Staff Council volunteers don’t mind the extra effort it takes to carry out the breakfast and spring luncheon. “There are many staff on this campus who work very hard at their jobs.”
