  • Gregory Walker, associate professor of music and entertainment industry studies, has been chosen the 2004 recipient of the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers award. He received the honor based on his original compositions. Walker’s areas of emphasis include violin, interdisciplinary music, music video, music of popular culture and ensembles. ASCAP is committed to the development of composers. Awards are granted by an independent panel.
  • Walter Smith Barton, an advanced art major in the College of Arts & Media, has received permission to exhibit a sculpture from Nov. 1 to Dec. 30 on the Auraria Campus. The sculpture consists of two upright 4'X6" wooden posts five feet apart joined at the top by two wooden planks. Barton describes the concept of this gateway as “exploring the transition from one area to another and the different qualities of each area.”  The site selected is on the east end of the Ninth Street Park amphitheater. After its exhibit on campus and the completion of his class assignment, Barton plans to permanently install this work at his residence.
  • "Empowering New Faculty: Engaging Ethnic and Political Diversity in the Classroom" will be held at 11:30 a.m. in North Classroom 4013 for faculty on the downtown Denver campus. Ana Sampaio, assistant professor in political science, will lead a panel discussion that targets strategies we can use when difficult discussion topics emerge in class. This topic is particularly timely as the university community responds to the Academic Bill of Rights initiative. RSVP to ellen.stevens@cudenver.edu or 303-556-6075.
