FIESTA KICKS OFF ONE BOOK, ONE DENVER EVENTS One Book, One Denver events kicked off in festive fashion March 26 with a fiesta, compliments of the Business School’s Judy Chavez. Between mouthfuls of posole (pork and hominy stew), biscochitos (anise cookies) and boillios (bread), readers chatted about Caramelo by Sandra Cisneros. ADMISSIONS' RAMSBURG GEARING UP FOR FINAL FRONTIER There will be some up-close and personal stargazing in Doug Ramsburg’s future, but there will be a couple of years and some intense preparation leading up to it. Ramsburg, a transfer credit evaluator at the Office of Admissions, won a three-hour flight into the Earth’s atmosphere as part of a Volvo XC90 promotion advertised during Super Bowl XXXIX. THE SOURCE ON OUTSOURCING: SERAPIO TALK IS APRIL 20 Manuel Serapio, associate professor of marketing, conducted a comprehensive survey for CIT on outsourcing and its effect on Colorado. He published his study findings in November 2004 and will hold an open discussion on the conclusions and their meaning in the short and long term April 20, 7:30-10 a.m. in the Executive Programs room 150. MEDEMA EARNS NEH SUMMER STIPEND The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announced last week that Steven Medema, economics professor at the Downtown Denver Campus of the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center, received a 2005 NEH Summer Stipend award. WIRTH CHAIR ANNOUNCES AWARDEES TO BE HONORED AT LUNCHEON The Wirth Chair at the Graduate School of Public Affairs, University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center, has announced the winners of the 8th annual Wirth Chair Awards. The statewide awards, which focus on sustainable development, are given in three categories: excellence and depth of media coverage of sustainable topics; community projects or persons which foster sustainable principles; and businesses which feature sustainable strategies as part of their daily operations.
